WALKBuddies

WALKBuddies: The Beginning

In 2017, due to budget cuts which eliminated the bus service that transported elementary students from FACE school on University Street to their after-school daycare program, the Service d’acceuil du Centre Multi-Ethnique St-Louis reached out to WALKSAFE in hopes of creating a partnership whereby WALKSAFE volunteers would accompany children aged five to twelve to their daycare facilities on Saint Urbain and Milton Street during the weekdays. In 2020, the partnership was officially named WALKBuddies.

What is WALKBuddies?

WALKBuddies is a partnership between WALKSAFE and the Service d’acceuil du Centre Multi-Ethnique St-Louis. This service operates during the daytime every weekday between 3:00 PM and 3:30 PM. WALKBuddies volunteers walk young children to their daycare from their school with the program acting as a walking school bus.

Mission Statement

WALKBuddies is an extension of WALKSAFE that provides assistance to the Service d’acceuil du Centre Multi-Ethnique St-Louis in walking young children to their daycare safely.

Operational Hours

WALKBuddies operates five days a week, Monday to Friday, from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM. WALKBuddies operates throughout the FACE school year except when the FACE school is closed.
